...and when I say random, I really do mean random bits about TV that are on my mind.

  • SPOILER ALERT FOR GAME OF THRONES - I kind of miss Renly Baratheon, who I didn't even realize I cared about until he died by a black smoke person of all things! Also, I want Sansa to give The Hound a hug; he looks like he needs it.
  • Phillip Phillips won American Idol! And if I'm being braggy, I picked him as my winner back in March. His crying, inability to sing, and hugging his mom at the end was a great finale moment. Is it just me or does his song, Home, sound like a Mumford & Sons song?
  • In the last few weeks of American Idol, I did want Jessica Sanchez to win though. Everyone needs to check out her and original Dreamgirl, Jennifer Holliday, sing their faces off with "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going". For real, you need to watch the crazy amount of talent.
  • Kristin Wiig's farewell sketch on Saturday Night Live made me tear up. I found her really annoying for several seasons but then I grew to like her. I really wish there was a better video of it than this. Also, don't leave Andy Samberg!! At least we've still got Bill Hader and Stefon. Spicy!
  • Pet Peeve: previews for new fall shows that can only be seen by Americans. WTF? If the point of the video is to spread awareness, maybe you shouldn't restrict its viewers.
  • You know you're excited about Fall TV when you start making spreadsheets. I've got a spreadsheet that lists all my shows, the times, and both American and Canadian channels. It's serious business organizing my PVR! I actually really enjoy organizing it though. I'm weird, I know.
  • There's something about the summer that always makes me want to marathon a show. Maybe I'll finally get around to watching Lost Girl or Leverage or Homeland. There's a little something called school that's getting in my way though...

Now that the trailers are up for the new fall shows, here's the ones I'm planning on giving a try:

The Mindy Project, Tuesdays at 9:30pm on FOX
I love Mindy Kaling so even though the trailer wasn't as funny as I was hoping, I still gotta support her. It helps that it's on after The New Girl since it'll probably appeal to the same audience. My prediction (if the show lasts long enough) - Mindy's character will end up dating the "mean" doctor.

The Mob Doctor, Mondays at 9pm on FOX
This isn't the type of show I would usually get into but there's Zach Gilford (Friday Night Lights) and Jordana Spiro (My Boys)! I'm not sure how well it will do but mobsters + hospitals might be an interesting mix.

Nashville, Wednesdays at 10pm on ABC
Zero points for creativity - this show is almost an exact replica of the movie, Country Strong. But with Connie Britton as the lead, I have to give it a shot. I've got a soft spot for all the Friday Night Lights alumni. I can already see myself hating on the bitchy Hayden Panettiere.

Partners, Mondays at 8:30pm on CBS
Michael Urie essentially plays the same character as he did on Ugly Betty but I'm not complaining, I loved Marc St. James. Also, yay Sophia Bush! I have nothing else to watch on Mondays at 8:30 and it's easy to give a half hour sitcom a chance.

Elementary, Thursdays at 10pm on CBS
I haven't watched BBC's Sherlock Holmes yet so I can't compare the two but from this trailer, I like Jonny Lee Miller's Sherlock Holmes. The fact that Watson is played by Lucy Liu is an interesting change too. As long as the two of them have a good dynamic, I think the show might do well. Thursdays is a tough day though. (Sidenote: I don't know who decided to move Glee to Thursdays but that was a terrible idea. They're already losing viewers and now they have to compete against Grey's Anatomy, The Office, and Parks & Recreation. Obviously, Glee is off my TV list now.)

The list of cancelled shows has been announced and for the most part, I'm not surprised with the decisions. There were shows that looked so stupid even I didn't attempt to watch it (i.e. Work It, Are You There Chelsea?). There were also new shows that I started to watch and realized quickly that they weren't going to last (i.e. Pan Am, Ringer). But the one show that got cancelled and made me yell out, "NOOOOOOOOO!" was Alcatraz.

I really liked it! I wasn't a big fan of the main characters but I really liked the storylines of the prisoners of Alcatraz. I thought it was an interesting twist on a crime show since the prisoners were from the '60s but they were popping up in 2012 unchanged. And just as they were getting into the mystery behind how it was all possible, the stupid show gets cancelled! How can they do this to me?! I would've been satisfied had they just given it one more season to explain things. This is exactly like when FlashForward got cancelled. I've got questions, damnit!

On the positive side, I'm really happy Hart of Dixie got renewed. I was worried about it for a while there. I love me some small towns and love triangles.
